Communication is one of the most crucial parts of branding, making it clear what your brand has to offer and their values. A quote by Albert Mehrabian, Professor Emeritus of Psychology states ‘93 percent of communication is non-verbal’, explaining that effective communication relies less on the words spoken/communicated but instead the visuals that follow. I aim to create both a type-centric piece and visual piece involving the facial cues and expressions of someone who is explaining perhaps quite an emotional or hard topic, expressing themselves through facial expression, cues and eye contact, to better understand the power of visual communication.

Cutting out words from a Vogue magazine and scanning in my collages on Adobe scan, I created a few interesting compositions that formed an idea of how I wanted my type centric piece to be laid out.

For my type and visual media piece I wanted to explore the methods of communication. Emotion was an element I wanted to visually communicate through facial expression. I conceptualized an idea to record myself having a conversation, muted so that only the facial cues could express and pick up on the emotion of the conversation.

The use of opposite, contrasting and reversing colours were to solely put focus on the facial features and text, studying the non-verbal communication through eye contact facial cues.
